Fun On-The-Go!

Have you ever seen an item sold in bulk at such a great price that you just can’t turn it down and then after purchasing, wondered what to do with them all? We found ourselves in that very quandary after purchasing 708 unused 4″ plastic bottles for the bargain price of just $5! That works out to be less than a penny for each! We knew there had to be an ingenious way to turn the bottles into a creative craft or toy for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and after much brainstorming and several trips to craft stores for ideas, we created these three great travel-sized games…

Better Than A Bargain

4/18/2017 –  We visited 8 different Walmart stores to cash in on their after-Easter 50% off sale and found many great items for $1 or less. The best deal we got was these adorable stuffed animals for $0.50 each! There were 12 different styles for these super soft creatures: white bunny, pink bunny, light blue bunny, blue bunny, gray bunny, frog, lamb, pig, cow, horse, sheep and dog. We dug through gondolas of stuffed animals, reached high atop shelves, kneeled on the floor to reach the bottom shelves and dug through every display at each store to get over 300 of these little darlings. Just imagine the look on a child’s face when they open their shoebox to find the sweet little face of one of these little animals looking back at them, ready to be loved on! Now imagine over 300 children being able to experience that joy, a result of simply using the profits from our Shoebox Packing Party products and taking the time to find these bargains!

Exciting Little Elephant

We have another completed crocheted project to share with you today! This adorable little blue elephant will be nestled in one of the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes we’re filling this year! With big floppy ears and a cute little tail, this elephant inspired us to theme the shoebox “Scripture Safari”. Measuring 6 inches from trunk to tail, 5 inches from ear to ear and 3 inches high, it fits perfectly in the palms of a child’s hands. Click here to see a complete list of the themes for the 23 shoeboxes we will be donating this year!

Adventures of Beasley, Operation Christmas Child

Journey of Our 23 Shoeboxes in 2016

From start to finish, it was so much fun to create these 23 precious shoeboxes using the profits from our Shoebox Packing Party product sales. Follow the journey of these 23 simple gifts from our hands to the 23 sweet children in Honduras who God chose to receive these particular shoeboxes in the photo collection below! If you’d like to see what’s inside each of our shoeboxes, click here.

Our 23 shoeboxes began their journey here…
Beasley helped load them into the car, bound for the Collection Center!
At the Collection Center, the boxes were loaded onto a wagon…
Then packed into an OCC shipping carton…
That’s our carton, #115, waiting to be loaded onto the semi truck!
It’s trailer loading time! Back onto the wagon they go…
Down the ramp to the parking lot where the semi truck is parked…
And finally, loaded onto the trailer which is destined for the DFW OCC Processing Center!
At the Processing Center, the shoeboxes are checked for inappropriate items and send on to…

which is where ItsMadeCreatively’s 23 shoeboxes went in 2016!

“Follow Your Box” Top 10 Tips

madecreativelyshoeboxes2016

Our 23 shoeboxes created from Packing Party product profits are ready-to-go for National Collection Week! We purchased the Follow Your Box barcode labels online yesterday and found that they have a cute new design which inspired us to share our top 10 Follow Your Box tips!

  1. Learn the Destination – By using the Follow Your Box barcode labels instead of the normal Boy/Girl brochure labels, you’ll receive an email from Samaritan’s Purse telling you which country your shoeboxes (once they are processed) were sent to!
  2. Easily Cover the Shipping Cost – Simply pay the $7 shipping donation per shoebox online through Follow Your Box to receive your barcode label. It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3!
  3. No Checks, No Cash – By using the Follow Your Box barcode labels, the shipping donation is paid online (see Tip #2) so you can avoid the hassle of writing checks or including cash in your shoeboxes!
  4. One Label, Multiple Shoeboxes – Print or copy the barcode label for each of your shoeboxes. The specific tracking number on the label is connected to the email address you used to Follow Your Box, so you can use the same label for all of your shoeboxes.
  5. Track Your Shoeboxes – At the Processing Center, the barcode will be scanned to record the shipping status and country destination. Go to Follow Your Box look-up tool to look up the information for your shoeboxes, once they have been processed, according to your tracking number or the email address you used to donate to Follow Your Box.
  6. Label Placement is Key – The best place to tape the barcode label is off center on the lid of the shoebox. Avoid placing the label in the center of the shoebox lid because that’s where the shoebox will be taped shut at the Processing Center.
  7. Watch Where You Tape – Don’t cover the barcode portion of the label with tape! It could affect scanning at the Processing Center. Although make sure the label edges are securely attached to the shoebox so that the label can’t tear off during transit.
  8. Don’t Forget To Mark It – Okay, so you purchased the labels, printed and cut them out, placed them on the end of the shoebox and carefully taped around the barcode, so that means you’re done, right? Not quite! Don’t forget to mark whether the shoebox is for a Boy or Girl and the (one) correct age group!
  9. Build A Shoebox Online – If you build a shoebox online, it will automatically will be tracked through Follow Your Box. Keep in mind that many of the shoebox gifts built online are delivered to hard-to-reach areas which prevent you from learning the exact country destination.
  10. Find Previous Destinations – We save a copy of our Follow Your Box labels each year for our records and were able to type in the barcodes to the Follow Your Box look-up tool to find out when our shoeboxes shipped that year and the destination countries (which we already knew). Try it for yourself!

We hope you’ve found these Follow Your Box barcode label tips helpful and will choose to follow your shoeboxes this year!

Operation Christmas Child

23 Years, 23 Shoeboxes

Earlier this year, we decided to set a goal to create 23 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child using the profits from our Packing Party product sales. Why 23? Well, at the time it was simply because 23 red and green GO boxes pack perfectly into one Samaritan’s Purse shipping carton. Several days ago, we realized one amazing fact that blew our minds . . . this is Operation Christmas Child’s 23rd year to send shoeboxes to children around the world! 23 shoeboxes from ItsMadeCreatively . . . 23 years of OCC . . . incredible!

Stay tuned to hear all about our experiences during National Collection Week, volunteering at the Processing Center, to which country our shoeboxes went to and so much more . . .

Shoebox #23 is for a 10-14 year old boy and is themed after the TV show, “Emergency! Station 51”. Inside is a First Aid kit, roll of fire station stickers, socks and a flashlight. Each character from the show is represented in this box too! There’s a stuffed basset hound (just like fire station dog, Henry), mustaches (to represent Firefighters Chet Kelly and Marco Lopez), Hot Wheels fire engine (for Captain Hank Stanley and Firefighter Mike Stoker), Hot Wheels rescue squad (for Firefighter/Paramedic Roy Desoto) and last but not least, green fire department pens (just like Firefighter/Paramedic Johnny Gage used)! The boy who receives this box will get a toy fire extenguisher that squirts water, Hot Tamales candies and bandage-themed playing cards which say “God has the power to heal”.  We can’t forget to mention the bar soap, washcloth, toothpaste, toothbrush and comb of his very own. Last of all, there is a train whistle (yes, it really does sound like a train), “Clap For The Lord” hand clapper, crayons, paper and several Bible stencils.

Before bringing this shoebox with us to the Collection Center during National Collection Week, we’ll slip in a personal note to the child and a photo!

Thanks to everyone who have purchased and continue to purchase our Packing Party products! Together we will change the lives of children all over the world through the amazing power of a simple gift through Operation Christmas Child.

We’d also like to mention a huge “thank you” to the great people at the Denton Fire Department for helping us with the items in this shoebox! Y’all are the best!
